Our 2018 Programme

Different businesses and organisations will host sessions during the Expo that you can participate in. Some are hands-on, while others were more information based, with speakers sharing their experiences, tips, highlights and ways for grinding through when the going gets tough out there on the bike. Here's a taste of what you can expect.

Sessions are all free of charge, but there are limited seats in the speakers area, so arrive early if you don't want to risk standing.

Bike South America

Latin Link – Gary Tate

11:45am – 12:15pm Saturday 13 October

Gary will share his experiences in a Q&A session. Join him for this session and find out what it's like to bike off the grid.

Welcome to the cycling revolution

Ground Effect – Fraser

12:30pm – 1:00pm Saturday 13 October

Fraser will share the story of Ground Effect Cycle Clothing and where it's going in the future. This will include a Q & A session.

Cycling New Zealand – Anton Cooper

 

1:15 – 1:45pm Saturday 13 October

Q & A segment where Anton will share what it's like to be riding with, and be one of the world's best elite mountain bikers. Whether you are a young rider aspiring to follow in his foot steps or a weekend warrior who's just proud to have a Cantabrian out there taking it to the very best in the world – you won't want to miss this one!

Amazing Events

CJM's Events – John Moore

 

2:00pm – 2:30pm Saturday 13 October

John is going to give an overview of the awesome events he, Carol and their team run in the South Island. Together they have run over 90 events, so bring a wealth of knowledge both as competitors and organisers. Some of the events include: Bays Cycle Challenge, Ride the Wilderness, Bridge to Bridge, Gold Trail, Red Zone 6, Ride the Rakaia and Around Brunner.

Getting people ready for the world circuit

Cycling New Zealand – Steve Rickerby

 

2:45 – 1:45pm Saturday 13 October

Steve has been appointed as the head of the Southern Region Performance Hub. He will share his goals, insights and what he believes it takes to compete at the highest levels in cycling today.

Cycling in the digital space

NZ Transport Agency – Kari Singh

 

3:10pm – 4:00pm Sunday 14 October

In 2017 NZTA launched a pilot Mobility as a Service (MaaS) app offering a single, connected network-wide transport system focused on providing people-centred services. MaaS offers an opportunity to change the way different transport modes work together. Active transport is a key part of this.

​We need your assistance to shape the user experience for cyclist in this digital landscape working towards a digital solution for those who are keen to take up cycling as well as those who cycle every day, through a truly integrated transport lens. Work with us to design a digital experience that makes cycling accessible to the masses.

Riki will give you the low-down on Rikonda e-bikes, components, models, what to look for when purchasing, why an e-bike, the benefits and other insightful information. If you're considering buying an e-bike, this will be an invaluable session.

Anthony will talk you through the self-help guide he's designed especially for cyclists

Metro Canterbury would like to inform and invite people to have their say on Canterbury's draft Public Transport Plan. The Plan takes our city into its sustainable future, and it asks your thoughts on things like more frequent buses, quicker trips, and a shfit to zero emission vehicles.

Unfortunately due to low numbers the Battle of the Garage Mechanic will not be going ahead at this year's event.

We hope to run this head-to-head challenge in the future, so if you're keen, polish your tools and start training for next year!
